We have created some collections of resources for the major five world religions on this page and also looked at some resources for some of the main religious festivals. There are of course, many more that we could add and will over time. We have also created a collection of Holocaust reading and recommended titles on this subject as it forms part of primary themed learning in the curriculum.

  • Christmas -  Christmas day falls on the 25th December each year and is a celebration of the birth of Jesus. Christmas accessible images.
  • Easter - Easter falls in March or April each year. Christians celebrate Jesus rising from the dead. Easter resources and  Easter accessible images.
  • Lent - When Christians remember that  Jesus spent 40 days and nights in the desert, traditionally a time when Christians give something up in preparation for Easter at the end of Lent.

  • Eid - Eid is celebrated by Muslims worldwide because it marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan.
  • Ramadan - During the month of Ramadan, Muslims won't eat or drink between dawn and sunset. When the sun has set they share a special meal called iftar. At the end of the month of Ramadan there is a special three-day festival called Eid al-Fitr.

Judaism

  • Hanukkah - Jewish people celebrate Hanukkah for 8 days each December. It is also known as the 'Festival of Lights'. Hanukkah resources.
  • Holocaust Memorial Day - A national commemoration day in the United Kingdom dedicated to the remembrance of the Jews and others who suffered in the Holocaust, under Nazi persecution. Resources about the Holocaust.
  • Passover- Passover is also known as Pesach. It usually falls in March or April. It celebrates the escape of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt over 3000 years ago. On the first two days of Passover, family and friends will get together for a meal and a special service called a Seder.

Sikhism

  • Vaisakhi - Vaisakhi is celebrated on 13 or 14 April. It is a harvest celebration and observes major events in the history of Sikhism.
  • Diwali - Diwali lasts for five days and usually takes place in October or November. It is known as the 'Festival of Lights' and is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains. Diwali accessible images and Rama and Sita: the story of Diwali.
