Synopsis

This page shows the amounts of reparation due under Anglo-Saxon law for the loss of various parts of the body. It was paid by the perpetrator to their victim and was known as the wergild price. There is a locator dot shown, which will be at the top left of the page when the image is the right way up.

The page shows the outline of a standing man seen from the side and facing left; he has one arm held out to the left and one to the right. There are labels indicating the wergild value of various parts of his body.
